EDITORIAL EXPERIENCE

As a mobile journalist for the Des Moines Register's business section, I maintained relationships with top chief executives, movers, and shakers. I combined my natural curiosity with my passion for people, creating daily content as the sole contributor for the Central Iowa Networking page. I also developed the "5 Things You Should Know" feature for the state-wide Sunday edition.

My move to northwest Iowa in 2013 brought more freelance opportunities for features for the Sioux City Journal and Sioux County's Capital Democrat. I've interviewed quirky magicians and globally-recognized musicians for Orange City Art Council press releases.

I currently freelance write and edit for Diamond Vogel, a globally-recognized paint company.

I've worked as a freelance health and family editor for the Better Homes and Gardens website, BHG.com. From managing the BHG.com e-newsletter, which sends to hundreds of thousands of inboxes each week, to reworking print features for Web, I gained a passion for serving women and families with on-point, brand-appropriate content.

As a health staff writer, I created content (think print stories, interactive slide shows, and e-newsletters) for a variety of Meredith Corp. publications, such as Diabetic Living and Heart-Healthy Living.

As a freelance reporter, I've covered topics ranging from Newt Gingrich on caucus night for Lee Enterprises to the finer points of bedroom lighting for Denver Life Home + Design magazine.

As a freelance food editor, my work has been featured on Yahoo! Shine and General Mills Eat Healthy America.

I've partnered with many well-known national brands, such as Huggies, Wendy's, Truvia, Pampers, and more on my blog, Many Sparrows, which ran from 2010 to 2016. (E-mail me for a media kit to learn more.)

Whether it's speaking at local MOPS groups or teaching an Influence Network class, I loves to engage and connect, encouraging women to live a story worth sharing.

I also enjoy hammering out stories of faith and perseverance. Here are a few features:
  • How I Adopted My Son - And Fought to Become His Mama (Mother.ly)
  • Giving Grace to Everyone But Myself (In All Things)
